Creamy, indulgent and cosy vegan chai spice hot chocolate topped with a whipped coconut cream!
Two of the best things about this time of the year? Chai spice! And warm cosy drinks!
Which is why I have combined them together for this decadent chai spiced hot chocolate with whipped coconut cream.
It’s creamy, sweet, indulgent and SO cosy!
I like to whip this up in the afternoon, cosy up on the sofa with my dog and wrap up under a huge fluffy blanket. All the cosy vibes! Oh, and it’s super easy too!
What makes up chai spice?
I’ve used a mix of cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg and cardamom. This is then mixed with cocoa, vanilla, maple syrup and oat milk.
All the ingredients then simmer in a saucepan for a few minutes whilst you make a super quick coconut whipped cream using the cream from coconut milk, maple syrup and vanilla.
This makes the hot chocolate extra creamy and luxurious so I definitely recommend making it! But it is also delicious without it if you want to skip it.
If you’re a lover of chai spice you will love these chai spiced biscuits, which would also be a GREAT addition dipped into this hot chocolate, yum!
Or one of my favourite biscuits are the Biscoff Lotus ones, so good dipped in hot drinks!
This hot chocolate would be perfect with some of these cookies dunked in:

Super creamy and indulgent vegan chai spice hot chocolate with coconut whipped cream. Ready in just 5 minutes and the perfect sweet treat on cold autumn afternoons!
Ingredients
- 2 cups oat milk
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp ground all spice
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- Pinch of ground cardamom
- Pinch of ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp vanilla bean paste
- 3 tbsp maple syrup
- 4 tbsp cocoa powder
- Splash of hot water
Whipped Cream
- 4 tbsp coconut cream from a tin of coconut milk
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
Instructions
Place the milk and maple syrup in a saucepan on medium heat.
Mix the spices and cocoa powder in a cup and add a splash of hot water, mixing until it becomes a paste.
Place this in with the milk and stir well. Leave to warm up on a gentle simmer.
Place the coconut cream and maple syrup in a bowl, mix with a hand held mixer (or whisk) until fluffy and whipped.
Pour the chai hot chocolate into mugs, top with the whipped cream and decorate with extra spices or cocoa powder.
Notes
I use Oatly Barista milk. You can also use a different kind of plant milk, but I find oat milk to be the creamiest and frothiest.
