This smooth, creamy chocolate orange mousse is the perfect indulgent but healthy treat. It is so simple and only requires 4 ingredients.
Chocolate orange will always be a Christmas flavour to me. I used to love Terry’s chocolate oranges (when I ate dairy) and would eat it in one sitting.
It is one of my favourite flavour combos and it works so well in this mousse.
For the orange flavour, I used orange extract. It gives a strong orange flavour without needed to add a lot of liquid.
You can find it in the baking aisle of the supermarket and it is a great ingredient to have when you want to add orange flavour but don’t have any fresh oranges.
It is the perfect quick dessert for a busy festive period for your vegan and non vegan friends and family.
The only thing you need to prepare ahead is making sure you put the coconut milk in the fridge so that the coconut fat separates from the water.
If you’re in the UK usually this happens without putting it in the fridge, and mine is always separated (unless you have a very hot kitchen!).
But to be on the safe side, pop it in the fridge overnight.
Once the coconut fat is scooped out, you add melted dark chocolate, orange extract and maple syrup.
I told you it was easy! Then it gets scooped into glasses and left in the fridge to firm up.
It is a great to dessert to make the day before or morning of when you plan on eating it.
It doesn’t require fancy equipment or prep and I plan on making this a lot this festive period!

Vegan Chocolate Orange Mousse
This vegan chocolate orange mousse is smooth, creamy and addictive. It's decadent, healthy and is the perfect non dairy sweet treat.
Ingredients
- 400ml tin of full fat coconut milk
- 150g good quality 70% dark chocolate
- 1 1/2 tsp orange extract
- 3 tbsp maple syrup
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
Scoop the coconut fat from a 400ml tin of full fat coconut milk (you may need to refrigerate this the night before). It will work out about 300g /1 1/4 cups. Place it in a bowl. You can reserve the coconut water and save for a different recipe.
In a seperate bowl roughly break up the chocolate and melt over a bain-marie slowly with the orange essence.
Once the chocolate has melted, pour into the bowl with the coconut cream. Add the maple syrup and salt and whisk,
Divide into 4 glasses and leave to set in the fridge for a few hours. You can eat them straight away but they wont be as as mousse like.
I like to top with some grated orange zest and chocolate curls. They will keep in the fridge for a couple of days, just cover them.
Notes
You can find orange extract in the baking section of a supermarket. I got Valencian orange extract in Sainsbury's.
